India News: THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Top Congress leaders in Kerala on Sunday gracefully accepted their defeat in the April 6 Assembly polls as it seemed the party-led.
A total of 1,527 voters chose the NOTA (None of the Above) option, while 16 votes were declared invalid, the collector said.
The bypoll to Morva Hadaf Assembly seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, was necessitated after Independent MLA Bhupendrasinh Khant was disqualified in May 2019 for submitting an invalid caste certificate.
He eventually lost an appeal in the Gujarat High Court on the issue. Khant died due to health issues in January this year.
Suthar, who is a former legislator, had won the 2013 bypoll from the same seat after the demise of the then sitting MLA Savitaben Khant.
With thisvictory, the BJP s tally in the 182-member state Assembly has gone up to 112.
Even during campaigning, the party had avoided questions if the incumbent chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, will be given a second term. It had maintained that the parliamentary board will decide the chief minister after the election.

As millions of Americans call for further stimulus checks and a growing number of lawmakers urge President Biden to support more direct payments, billionaires pandemic profits alone could easily fund two more direct payments to all Americans with change left to spare.
Congress has thus far approved three rounds of direct stimulus checks since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first for $1,200 being approved in March 2020 followed by a second payment of $600 in December. Under President Joe Biden s American Rescue Plan, which was passed and signed in March, most Americans received another $1,400 payment. Now more than 2 million Americans have signed a Change.org petition calling for recurring monthly stimulus checks of $2,000 as dozens of lawmakers have urged Biden to support a similar proposal.
